Toddler killed in elephant attack; locals block road near KEPZ in Chattogram

C T Online Desk: Local people blocked PAB road near Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) in Karnaphuli upazila in Chattogram on Saturday protesting the death of a toddler in elephant attack.

Three-month old baby Arman Jawad, son of Mohamamd Ibrahim, was killed and his mother Khazima Begum, 30, was injured as the elephant hit them with its trunk at Shahmirpur Jamadar Para, said Md Sharif, officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli Police Station quoting the child’s father Ibrahim.

Khazima was admitted to at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital.

Protesting the incident, local people blocked PAB road near Daulatpur School, halting vehicular movement.

Md Wasim, a student of Chittagong University, said “We will not leave the road until the  forest department or local administration takes any steps to stop elephant attacks.”

Police are trying to bring the situation under control, said the OC.
