C T Online Desk: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said that the commission is preparing to organize the parliamentary elections as per the Chief Adviser’s announcement, assuming they will be held in December.
The CEC made this statement while responding to journalists’ questions at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday.
He also remarked that the National Identity Card (NID) services should remain under the jurisdiction of the EC.
Regarding the proposal from the newly formed political party, National Citizen Party (NCP), to hold the national elections and the Constituent Assembly elections together, the CEC said that the commission is currently focused on preparing for the national elections.
He added: “Political parties will express various opinions, but the commission cannot get involved in political debates. The head of the government has already announced a timeframe—either December or early 2026. We are preparing with December in mind.”
