Asif: Interim govt shifts from impulsive foreign policy with India

C T Online Desk: Adviser for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said that the current interim government prioritizes national interest over impulsive foreign policies.

“We have already moved away from impulsive foreign policy with India. Future relations between the two countries will be guided by national interests,” he said.

The LGRD adviser made these remarks while speaking to reporters after delivering the chief guest’s address at the concluding session of an international workshop on “Financial Inclusion and Rural Transformation” held at Lalmai Auditorium of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) in Comilla on Wednesday.

Addressing questions on local government elections, the adviser noted that government and administrative officers are being tasked with additional responsibilities to handle the functions of public representatives.

He added: “Decisions regarding the election of local government representatives will be made after the Local Reform Commission and the Election Commission complete their respective tasks.”

The two-week workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of policymakers and financial service providers from member states of the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO).

The focus was on adopting and implementing financial inclusion programs in rural areas to achieve sustainable development goals.

The event highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering financial inclusivity and improving rural livelihoods through targeted strategies.
