Police have claimed that the car carrying the central coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement in Narayanganj came under attack by the hijackers. The student leaders were on their way to Lama in Bandarban.
Hijackers attacked the car and took away cash, mobile phones, bags and other belongings from the student leaders. At least two people were injured when the attackers smashed the car’s glass.
The incident took place at around 2 am on Sunday in the Meghna Toll Plaza area of the Dhaka-Chittogram Highway in Sonargaon, Narayanganj.
Mohammad Abdul Bari, officer-in-charge of Sonargaon Police Station, said on Monday morning, the car was overrun by hijackers. We had a patrol team nearby. When our patrol team immediately moved forward, the hijackers ran away.
Hasnat Abdullah, the central convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, wrote about this in his verified Facebook page on Sunday night. He wrote, the convoy of the central coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement came under attack in Narayanganj on the way from Dhaka to Lama in Bandarban. Their bags and mobile phones were seized and many were injured in the attack.
“We demand a fair investigation of the incident from the Bangladesh government and exemplary punishment for the culprits,” the Facebook post read.
