Chinmoy among 164 sued in attempted murder case

C T Online Desk: An attempt to murder case has been filed against Chinmoy Krishna Das, former ISKCON leader and spokesperson for Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote, and 163 others in Chattogram.

Enamul Haque, a businessperson, filed the case with the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Sunday.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakar Siddique took the case into cognisance, said advocate Mohammad Mainuddin, a lawyer of the plaintiff.

As per the case application, on 26 November, Enamul went to the court for registering a piece of land. But, all of a sudden Chinmoy’s supporters attacked him as they were rampaging in and around the court area demanding the release of the controversial Hindu leader in a sedition case.

Enamul’s hand was broken in the attack, and deep wounds were left on a number of other parts of his body, forcing him to seek treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for nearly two weeks. He could not file a lawsuit due to his relatively prolonged treatment.

Advocate Saiful Islam Alif was hacked to death on the court premises during the violent attacks and the court’s central mosque as well as a number of vehicles were vandalised.

So far, five cases have been filed in connection with the murder and violence.
