Indian envoy calls youths custodians of Dhaka, Delhi future relationship

C T Online Desk: Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma has highlighted the interdependency of Bangladesh and India and said the youths of both countries are the custodians of the future of the relationship.

He was speaking at the “Maitri Diwas” celebration in Dhaka.

Maitri Diwas is regarded as a milestone in the bilateral relationship as on this day on December 6, 1971, India recognized Bangladesh as an independent country, 10 days ahead of the victory against Pakistan on December 16.

“This is really a milestone in our relationship, in our friendship as two nations which are connected by history, geography, culture, and language,” he said, adding that both India and Bangladesh have come a long way since 1971.

“Today we are working together as two fast-growing economies creating new opportunities for each other’s people. Despite changes and occasional challenges and ups and downs, we have deep stakes in each other’s prosperity and development,” he said.

“We have built strong interdependencies between our two countries and we are reinforcing it by linking through connectivity, culture and commerce. And in this interlinkage, in this interdependency, the people of our two countries are the cornerstone, particularly the youth who are nation builders today in both India and Bangladesh and who are the custodians of the future of our relationship,” he added.

Folk music dominated the celebration held at the Indian Cultural Centre in Gulshan.
