Tarique Rahman: Upcoming election will be the toughest yet

C T Online Desk: BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said the upcoming national election in Bangladesh will be significantly more challenging than any previous elections.

The BNP leader, who is currently in the United Kingdom, made this statement during his concluding speech via videoconferencing at a daylong divisional training workshop at the banquet hall of the Khulna Press Club on Monday.

Addressing more than 1,000 leaders from Khulna and Mymensingh divisions, Tarique said the changing perspectives and growing awareness among the people will make the electoral battle harder.

He urged his party’s leaders to focus on correcting mistakes, guiding their colleagues on the right path, and staying connected with the people to retain their trust and support.

“The mindset of the people has evolved—they are far more aware than before. As leaders, it is your responsibility to rectify any errors and stand by the people,” he said, calling on BNP leaders to strengthen their engagement with citizens.

Tarique emphasized that public support is the cornerstone of the BNP’s strength and underscored the importance of retaining that support at all costs.

“We must take the BNP’s 31-point reform plan to every household. Our focus is to gain and maintain public trust and ensure the implementation of these reforms,” he said.

Highlighting the challenges ahead, he added: “The upcoming national election will test us like never before. Yet, if we can overcome the past 17 years of struggle against autocracy, we can certainly deliver the 31-point agenda to the people with determination and unity.”

Tarique also spoke about the BNP’s vision for governance, including plans to introduce family cards to enhance women’s social and economic standing and farmers’ cards to support agricultural needs.

These measures, he said, would ensure equitable resource distribution and foster economic resilience among families.
