C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh : In Trishal upazila of Mymensingh district, Directorate of Environment conducted a joint operation in Mymensingh and Trishal upazila administration and fined a total of Tk 16 lakh 50 thousand in 5 brick kilns. Out of 58 brick kilns in Trishal upazila, 15 are known to have approval papers. There are legal restrictions on building brick kilns on agricultural land. According to the Brick Burning Control Act and Rules, there is no provision to construct any brick kiln within 3 km of educational institutions, government reserved forest areas, densely populated localities, no one cares to follow the law to start brick kilns without obtaining clearance from the Environment Department, approval or license from the District Commissioner. In continuation of this campaign is going on stop by stop.
On Wednesday (November 27) from 10 am to 5 pm, a total of 16 lakh 50 thousand taka was fined in 5 brick kilns of the upazila. Trishal Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Mahbubur Rahman confirmed that mobile court partially demolished some brick kilns to stop brick kiln operations.
He said that when complaints were filed under various sections of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Installation (Control) Act, 2013 by the Department of Environment, a total fine of 16 lakh 50 thousand taka was imposed and collected on 05 brick kilns of Trishal upazila through the mobile court.
Assistant Director of Department of Environment Mymensingh Nazia Uddin and Inspector Mahbubul Islam were present during the operation. Apart from this, some parts of the kiln were specially demolished to stop illegal brick kiln activities. A team of Trishal Thana police specially assisted during the operation. It is known from the administration that the ongoing operation will continue.
