Noab: Press freedom under severe attack

C T Online Desk: The Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (Noab) has expressed concern, saying that press freedom is currently under severe attack.

In a press release signed by Noab President AK Azad on Monday, these concerns were highlighted.

The statement read: “Noab has observed with concern that attacks on the freedom of the country’s media continue in various forms. Protests, attacks, and vandalism have already taken place in front of the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. For two days, some individuals have attempted to create chaos by staging sit-ins on the road in front of Prothom Alo’s headquarters in Karwan Bazar. Law enforcement agencies eventually dispersed them. Similar activities continued even yesterday.”

Noab believes: “If anyone has objections to any news or editorial policies of a newspaper, they can express their intellectual position and opinions through writing. However, such attempts at disruption hinder the practice and environment of journalism in the media. Noab strongly condemns these incidents and calls on the government to take strict action against mob justice targeting media or any other institution. Noab also urges all parties to refrain from activities that undermine press freedom.”
