C T Online Desk: Dr Muhammad Yunus visited the Secretariat for the first time on Wednesday, after being sworn in as the chief adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, and presided over a meeting of the advisory council.
Earlier, upon his arrival, Yunus was welcomed at the Secretariat by Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul and Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan.
Previously, meetings of the advisory council under this administration were held at the State Guest House Jamuna or the chief adviser’s office.
According to sources from the Secretariat and the Cabinet Division, Wednesday’s meeting was held in the Cabinet Room on the 12th floor of building No 6 at the Secretariat.
The Cabinet Division noted that this room, primarily prepared for Cabinet meetings, had not been used for such a purpose for a long time. Usually, only a couple of meetings at the secretary level take place there annually. The room was cleaned and prepared, especially for the chief adviser’s arrival.
The chief adviser’s first visit prompted extensive cleaning of other Secretariat buildings and internal roads.
Visitor access to the Secretariat was restricted, with officials suspending the passes normally used to grant visitors entry.
Regular access may resume once Yunus leaves the premises.
