Capsized launch pulled up, six bodies including child recovered, 15-20 missing

C T Online Desk: Bodies of six launch capsize victims are recovered and 15-20 go missing in the Shitalakkhya River as rescue operation continues.

The bodies belong to 50 year Joynal, a 45 year woman, a 27 year woman, a teenage girl and a 10-year girl.

Meanwhile, capsized launch ML Afsar Uddin has been pulled up.

Divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence and Bangladesh Coast Guard recovered the bodies as the rescue operation continues.

A three-member probe committing is trying to find reason for the capsize and detect the perpetrators.

A launch with around 60 passengers capsized in Shitalakkhya river following a hit by another cargo ship in Narayanganj Sunday afternoon.

The accident took place near the bridge of Alamin Nagar in Char Syedpur at 2:30pm.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Narayanganj Naval Police Station Moniruzzaman said the launch of ‘ML Ashraf Uddin’ heading towards Munshiganj from Narayanganj Central Terminal Ghat capsized in the river after it was hit by the ship named ‘Ruposhi 9’.

He said some 15 to 20 passengers had been able to swim ashore but the rest remained missing.

On information, fire service divers rushed to the spot and started conducting search operation for the missing passengers, sources at fire service said.
