C T Online Desk: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has made a phone call to Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj, son of Tajuddin Ahmad, the first prime minister of Bangladesh, assuring him of presenting the true history of the nation before the new generation.
“Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus called me today. I had a brief conversation with him. He assured me that he would take steps to present the true history of the nation before the new generation,” Sohel Taj wrote on his verified Facebook page on Monday.
During the conversation, Dr. Yunus respectfully recalls the contributions of Tajuddin Ahmad and the contributions of the four national leaders during the Liberation War, Sohel Taj wrote.
“He assured me that he would take steps to ensure that the new generation can learn the complete history of our Liberation War and contribution of the four leaders,” he said in the post.
It is important to highlight the contributions of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque, Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Bangabandhu, Tajuddin Ahmad, Syed Nazrul Islam, the four national leaders and Ziaur Rahman, Mohammad Ataul Gani Osmani and all the brave heroes and leaders, including the 11 sector commanders of the freedom fighters, before the younger generation, he wrote.
Sohel Taj was elected a Member of Parliament in 2001 with Bangladesh Awami League nomination from Gazipur-3 constituency and served as a member of the standing committee on the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
He was re-elected from the same constituency in 2008 and joined the then prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s cabinet as the state minister for home affairs on 6 January 2009 and resigned from the position on 31 May the same year.
Later, he retired from Awami League politics and since then, he has been engaged in continuing fitness, health and bodybuilding activism.
Now in the wake of the complete ouster of the Awami League government on 5 August in the face of the student-led movement, Sohel Taj became active and vibrant for the due recognition of his father Tajuddin Ahmad, four national leaders and others.
Earlier on 3 November, he announced a programme to submit a memorandum to the chief adviser of the interim government to press home a three-point demand, including the observance of Jail Killing Day as a state event.
Sohel Taj wrote, “3 November is the disgraceful Jail Killing Day. It has been 49 years, yet the four national heroes who successfully led the Liberation War and under whose leadership Bangladesh emerged as an independent sovereign state have not received any state recognition. This is unacceptable.”
The government should declare April 10, the day the first Bangladesh government was formed, as ‘Republic Day,’ observe November 3, Jail Killing Day, as ‘National Mourning Day’ at the state level, and include the names, contributions and biographies of all civil and military organisers, leaders, martyrs and freedom fighters in textbooks and syllabuses at all levels, with the appropriate dignity and importance, he highlighted in his demand.
