Indigenous fish should be brought under scientific method of farming” : Fisheries and Livestock Adviser

C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel, Mymensingh : Ms. Farida Akhtar, adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Mymensingh, said that the role of BFRI is very important in terms of fish. If the research is not done from here, then there will be no work with just the directorate. It is a very important place, which we have no chance to neglect. We Bengalis know that fish and rice are Bengalis. But native fishes are disappearing in our country. What we are proud of is that our country’s scientists are very good. I would like to appeal to you, once upon a time there were plenty of indigenous fish of various species from the canals, ponds and rivers of this country. So the people of this country were called fish and rice Bengalis. The markets were also filled with native fish. At that time, as more fish was imported than the demand, people from far and wide flocked to the riverside markets to buy native fish throughout the year. Despite the demand, consumers are now being deprived of the taste of native species of fish. Native fishes are disappearing day by day due to pesticides or modern agriculture. Indigenous fishes should be brought under scientific method of cultivation. He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the exchange meeting with the officials of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute at the BFRI conference room on Saturday (October 26) afternoon. He also said, here you are cultivating many species of fish, I think research is needed here in the form of a project or how the taste of fish will be, or for that, research on cooking fish is also needed here. Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute Director General Dr. Under the chairmanship of Anuradha Bhadra, senior scientific officer of BFRI presented important information about the activities of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute. Md. Moshiur Rahman. Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Md. Mufidul Alam, Superintendent of Police Md. Azizul Islam and other officials of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute were present.
