C T Online Desk: The government has formed a task force headed by the chief of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
Following an order from the High Court, the Public Security Division of the home ministry issued a circular on 17 October, forming this four-member task force, which was made public on Wednesday.
The task force includes a representative from the police headquarters not below the rank of additional DIG, a representative from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) not below the rank of additional DIG, and a representative from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) not below the rank of director.
The task force has been instructed to complete the investigation of the Sagar-Runi murder case following appropriate laws and regulations and submit a report to the High Court within six months. The task force may co-opt additional members if necessary.
On 11 February 2012, Sagar and Runi were murdered in their apartment in West Rajabazar, Dhaka. Their only son, Mahir Sarwar Megh (5), was at home during the incident.
At the time, Sagar was working at the private television channel Maasranga TV, and Runi was employed at ATN Bangla. Following the murder, Runi’s brother, Nausher Ali Roman, filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Police Station.
