C T Online Desk: A bridge in Parshuram, Feni, has been inaugurated in the name of Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University who was killed in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The bridge was funded by the Hossneara-Manjurul Alam Welfare Trust of Chittagong and constructed with iron at a cost of Tk22 lakh.
The “Shaheed Abu Sayed Smriti Shetu” was inaugurated in Paglirkul village of Chithlia Union, Parshuram Upazila.
The bridge was financed personally by the trust, led by former CCC Mayor Manjurul Alam.
Parshuram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Afroza Habib Shapla inaugurated the bridge, with officials from various departments and local dignitaries present.
Locals said that the area’s residents had been using a bamboo bridge for many years, which caused difficulties, especially for children and the elderly.
The bamboo bridge was destroyed during the flood on August 20, leaving the residents of both sides completely disconnected.
After villagers raised the issue with former mayor Manjurul Alam, he financed the construction of the new bridge. The bridge will benefit residents of seven villages on both sides.
Local resident Akram Hossain expressed relief, saying that the bridge was a long-awaited project.
He added that traveling in the area had been challenging for a long time, but now, with the new iron bridge, people will be able to travel easily.
