Fire in oil tanker at Ctg Port, 2 killed, 1 missing

C T Online Desk: Two  dead bodies were found in an oil tanker named ‘Banglar Jyoti’ which caught fire near Dolphin Jetty No. 7 of Chattogram  Port at Patenga in the city.

A fire service official confirmed the matter to media.

An old tanker belonging to the state-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) carrying crude oil caught fire around 11:15 a.m. on Monday(yesterday). It unloaded oil from large vessels anchored outside the port and brought it to Patenga refinery.

At the time of the accident, there was more than 11 thousand tons of crude oil in this tanker.

The Navy, Coast Guard, Port and Fire Services are working to put out the fire.

According to sources, oil was released from the tanker for an hour. One person has been missing since the fire. Meanwhile , a probe committee has been formed headed by the Managing Director of Eastern Refinery Ltd, sources said.
