A representative from the Bangladesh Embassy in Kuala Lumpur confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding the visit. The tentative date for Anwar Ibrahim’s arrival is set for 4 October, and the final date is expected to be confirmed by the end of today (Monday).
Sources indicate that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will arrive in Dhaka via Pakistan on 4 October. During his visit, he is expected to meet with Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government, and President Mohammad Shahabuddin. Discussions on labour market issues may bring positive news for Bangladesh during this diplomatic engagement.
Diplomatic sources also revealed that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had been actively pursuing the visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister since last year (2023). A Foreign Secretary-level meeting between the two nations took place on 10 May 2023, where the potential visit of Anwar Ibrahim was emphasized alongside broader bilateral issues.
According to the Bangladesh Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina first visited Malaysia in 2000 for an official state visit and later in December 2014, after more than a decade, for her second visit.
Anwar Ibrahim’s visit is expected to further strengthen ties between the two countries, with labor market developments being a key focus.
