C T Online Desk: Nurjahan Begum, adviser for the Health Ministry, urged doctors to withdraw their work stoppage, condemning recent incidents of violence against doctors and saying that taking the law into one’s own hands is unacceptable.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday, after three separate incidents involving attacks on doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, all of which she described as distressing, she emphasized that violence against doctors is never acceptable.
The adviser said those who engage in such behaviour will be brought to justice.
She called upon those who initiated the shutdown to reconsider their actions in light of the impact on patients and to lift the strike for the sake of patient care.
Meanwhile, Health Ministry Secretary Akmal Hossain Azad said two investigation committees have been formed to look into the attacks.
He added that these committees have been instructed to submit their reports promptly and that appropriate actions will be taken based on their recommendations to address any wrongdoing.
