C T Online Desk: City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has set a deadline of March 25 to remove the polythene from the traders and use jute or cloth bags as an alternative. He further said that if any polythene is found in any of them, it will be strictly enforced and legal action will be taken against those who have polythene in their possession.
The Mayor made the announcement at a campaign rally on Monday morning at Riazuddin Bazaar to stop the use of polythene. Councilor Abdus Salam Masum, Shaibal Das Sumon, reserved councilor Neelu Nag and other leaders of Riazuddin Bazar Business Association were present on the occasion.
Expressing displeasure, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said that the city dwellers have been repeatedly warned about the evils or harms of using polythene or plastic. But many are not taking the matter into account. The deadline has been extended several times at the request of traders after Chasik announced strict measures against the use of polythene. It will not be extended after March 25.
