C T Online Desk: Continuous rainfall over the past few days has led to severe waterlogging in the low-lying areas of the port city of Chittagong, causing significant hardship for residents.
Streets were submerged in water ranging from knee- to waist-deep on Tuesday morning.
The waterlogging also disrupted traffic on various roads across the city. In areas like Katalganj, people had to cross the flooded streets by boat.
Md Ismail Bhuiyan, a meteorologist at the Patenga weather office, said: “As of noon on Tuesday, 76 millimetres of rain were recorded over the last 24 hours, with 60mm falling in the last three hours.”
Several areas of the city, including Katalganj, Bakalia, Muradpur, Chawkbazar, Agrabad, CDA Residential Area, EPZ and Bahaddarhat, were inundated, severely hampering the movement of both vehicles and pedestrians.
Office-goers and others who needed to go out faced numerous difficulties.
Mizanul Islam, a resident of the Katalganj area, said rain over the past few days had led to flooding in Katalganj and Chawkbazar.
“Boats have been seen operating in Katalganj, with many residents using them to travel from their homes to the main roads.”
The waist-deep water on the roads also disrupted traffic on key routes such as the Muradpur-Bahaddarhat Road and the Chawkbazar-Muradpur Road, leading to significant traffic jams on both sides.
