Chittagong streets flooded after overnight rain

C T Online Desk: Overnight rain has caused waterlogging in the low-lying areas of Chittagong city, leading to significant hardship for its residents.

Streets were submerged with water levels ranging from knee- to waist-deep, disrupting traffic flow on various roads on Thursday.

As many as 114.6 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in the 24 hours to 9am. According to Ali Akbar Khan, assistant meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Patenga office, 62mm of rain was recorded in just three hours from 6am to 9am.

The waterlogging caused severe inconvenience for office-goers and others who ventured out in the morning.

Traffic was halted on the Muradpur-Bahaddarhat road from dawn due to waist-deep water on it, leading to significant congestion on both sides of the road.

Nazrul Islam, a local resident, said intermittent rain during the night and heavy rain in the morning had inundated Chawkbazar and Katalganj.

“The streets in front of Ibn Sina Diagnostic and Consultation Center and Parkview Hospital in Katalganj are under waist-deep water, severely hampering vehicular movement and causing extreme distress for people.”
