Leaders of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance have strongly recommended banning the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, for their involvement in anti-state activities.

The 14-party alliance leaders held a meeting with Sheikh Hasina, president of Awami League, in the chair at her official residence Ganabhaban around 5:30pm against the backdrop of the quota reform movement.
“A decision was taken anonymously during the meeting to ban evil force Jamaat-Shibir politics,” Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said categorically.
In October 2018, the Election Commission revoked the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami, making it clear that the party would not be able to contest in the subsequent national election.
Besides, the Bangladesh Supreme Court on 1 August 2013 cancelled the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami, ruling that the party is unfit to contest the national election.
