C T Online Desk: Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, have allegedly been picked up by plainclothes law enforcers from a hospital in Dhaka.
Nahid Islam’s father, Badrul Alam, and several witnesses told Dhaka Tribune that some plainclothes individuals allegedly from law enforcement agencies picked the two up from Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in the capital around 4pm on Friday.
“Some people in plain clothes from the country’s law enforcement agencies picked up them from the hospital. The hospital has been barricaded by law enforcement since the morning,” Badrul Alam said.
Several doctors and nurses at the hospital said the two movement coordinators had been undergoing treatment at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital for the past few days.
Nahid’s sister, Fatema Taslim, told the media that Nahid and Asif were picked up by the law enforcement agency while they were sick.
They were shaking when they were taken away and were not even allowed to wear trousers at that time, she added.
Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud had earlier alleged that they were abducted and tortured.
Nahid Islam claimed to have been abducted and kept blindfolded on July 21. He told our correspondent that he was severely tortured both physically and mentally.
On the other hand, Asif Mahmud claimed that he was abducted on July 19 and kept in captivity under interrogation for four days until his release on July 24.
He reported being rendered senseless by injections every time he refused to stop the movement. None of them could identify which particular law enforcement agency had abducted them.
