Quota movement: CU students defy evacuation order amid campus closure

C T Online Desk: Students, who have been advocating for logical quota reformation, have refused to comply with the evacuation order given by Chittagong University.

The university authorities on Wednesday announced an indefinite closure following the decision of its 551st Syndicate meeting, in response to the recent unrest in anti-quota movement.

However, students have refused to comply with the order to vacate the dormitories.

CU Proctor Dr Ahidul Alam confirmed the closure and evacuation orders on Wednesday.

Despite the directive, female students from Pritilata, Khaleda Zia, and Shamsunnahar Halls have been protesting, declaring their refusal to leave the dorms since receiving the instructions.

According to the syndicate’s earlier decision, female students were ordered to vacate by 6:30pm and male students by 9:30pm.

After this announcement, students gathered in front of the halls to protest.

During this time, students engaged in lengthy discussions with Shamsunnahar Hall Provost and CU Proctor Ahidul Alam.

They remain resolute in their decision not to leave.

Proctor Alam said: “We cannot contradict the syndicate’s decision. Currently, we are compiling a list of those who wish to remain in the dormitories. A final decision will be made through another syndicate meeting.”
