C T Online Desk: Following the University Grants Commission (UGC) announcement of an indefinite closure, Dhaka University students began leaving the residential halls on Wednesday morning.
With anxiety on their faces and bags on their shoulders, students are heading home.
Reports have also come in of students leaving halls at several other universities, including Rajshahi, Begum Rokeya, and Pabna University of Science and Technology.
The announcement to close all universities and colleges across the country came on Tuesday night after clashes between students demanding quota reform and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists, which resulted in casualties in various locations.
Meanwhile, a tense atmosphere prevails on the DU campus. There has been little to no crowd at Mall Chattar, Modhur Canteen, TSC, and the Curzon Hall area. Traffic within the campus is also limited. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed in front of the Vice Chancellor’s office.
Since Wednesday morning, many students have been seen leaving almost all the dormitories, including Bijoy Ekattor Hall, Rokeya Hall, and Kabi Jasimuddin Hall.
