C T Online Desk: The government is planning to establish the first law university in the country in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur, said Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq.
The minister made the announcement while speaking to newsmen after visiting several sites in Shibchar upazila on Saturday.
He stated that a decision has been made to establish two institutions under the Law and justice Division. A proposal has been approved to set up a judicial academy. For this purpose, the government will acquire property and compensate the landowners.
Additionally, a law university will be established on the instructions of the Prime Minister, to be named ‘Bangladesh Law University’, the minister said, adding that he came to Shibchar for a suitable location.
The probable locations for the university include Kutubpur beside Padma Rail Station near Padma Bridge, Boro Dowali in Panchchar Union, and Char Shamail in Shibchar Upazila municipality.
National Parliament’s Chief Whip Noor-e Alam Chowdhury, Law Ministry Joint Secretary Bikash Kumar Saha, Zilla Parishad Chairman Monir Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Marufur Rashid Khan, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Masud Alam, Upazila Chairman Dr. Md Salim, and Shibchar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al-Mamun, among others, were present during the visit.
