C T Online Desk: A customer of the Islami Bank in Chittagong, whose 150 bhori gold worth approximately Tk1.5 crore, allegedly vanished from a locker, is set to receive Tk2 lakh in insurance.
SM Shafiqul Mawla Chowdhury, manager of the bank, confirmed the matter on Monday.
He explained that the customer would receive the funds as she falls under the corporate insurance coverage according to their agreement.
Corporate insurance amounts to Tk1 lakh for small lockers, Tk2 lakh for medium lockers, and Tk3 lakh for large lockers. Customer Rokeya Akhter Bari used a medium locker, he added.
The official added the customer on May 29 alleged that she could not find 150 bhori gold in her locker.
“I believe the allegations are false. We do not have any information regarding what customers keep inside the lockers. There is no possibility of stealing or robbery from the bank’s lockers,” he added.
In this regard, Rokeya Bari said she kept around 160 bhori gold in the lockers which belong to two of my daughter-in-laws and me. However, I could not find some 150n bhori of gold in the locker.
She added that she keeps the locker’s key with her at all times and another key is with the bank authorities. “I found my locker open.”
