IOM DG arrives in Dhaka on five-day visit

Director General (DG) of the UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM) Amy Pope arrived in Dhaka on Sunday.

IOM Bangladesh mission chief Abdusattor Esoev and foreign ministry officials welcomed Amy at Dhaka airport at 12:00 pm.

The IOM DG has come to Bangladesh on a five-day visit from 5-9 May. She will begin her tour by visiting a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, according to sources.

It is known that the heads of various United Nations organizations will visit Dhaka on the occasion of 50 years of relations. The visit begins with IOM Director General Amy Pope.

Diplomatic sources said Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will visit Dhaka in the middle of this month.

Apart from this, Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at the end of this month.

During the visit to Dhaka, Amy will pay a courtesy call to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She will also hold a meeting with Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury.
