Govt to ensure rehabilitation if KNF members surrender: RAB chief

C T Online Desk: The government will ensure proper rehabilitation for the members of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) if they return to their normal lives after surrendering to law enforcement agencies.

M Khurshid Hossain, director general (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), came up with the announcement while talking to reports at Bandarban Circuit House on Wednesday.

“Return to the right path of life. The government will rehabilitate you (KNF members) upon your surrender. Otherwise, our drive will continue until the complete elimination of the armed terrorists group in the hill areas,” warned the RAB DG.

Pointing finger at the KNF members, Khurshid Hossain said that their armed attacks hoodlums on branches of private and state-run banks pose a direct challenge.

“There is no space for armed terrorists in the country. Our drive is on and will continue until our goal is achieved,” he said categorically.

Two branches of Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank were attacked by a group of armed hoodlums in Thanchi of Bandarban on 3 April hours after the armed robbers targeted Sonali Bank’s Ruma branch.

A manager of Sonali Bank’s Ruma branch was kidnapped and over Tk17.5 lakh was stolen from two bank branches in Thanchi.

They also looted firearms from security officers of the banks. The robbers are suspected to be members of the KNF.

Later, the kidnapped manager was released by the KNF after a hefty ransom was paid.

Against the backdrop of the incident, Bangladesh Army, Rapid Action Battalion, Bangladesh Police, and Bangladesh Border Guard launched a joint operation to eliminate the KNF terrorist group from Bandarban.
