School student drowns in Chattogram waterfall

C T Online Desk: In a tragic turn of event, a young tourist lost his life on Wednesday after slipping down into a waterfall at Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram.

The ill-fated 18-year-old was identified as Tahmid Muntasir Chowdhury of Kusumbag Residential Area in the port city’s Khulshi area.

He was a SSC candidate from Chattogram Metropolitan Police School and College located in the city’s Dampara area.

Sources said that accompanied by his friends, Tahmid went to visit Suptadhara Waterfall at Sitakunda Eco Park.

At around 2.30pm, he slipped on a slope upstream and fell down into the waters underneath.

Receiving information, two fire-fighting units from the local Sitakunda Fire Service and Civil Defence station rushed to the spot and recovered the body through a frantic effort of half an hour, said Senior Station Officer Md Nurul Alam Dulal of the station.

The body was handed over to the family of the deceased, he added.
