Krishi Market fire brought under control after over five hours

C T Online Desk: The devastating fire that broke out at Mohammadpur Krishi Market in the capital early in the morning was brought under control after more than five hours efforts.

“The deadly fire which originated around 3.43am at the market was brought under control at 9:25am,” Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire service and Civil Defence Headquarters (Media Cell), said.

Earlier, the fire burnt several shops in the market into ashes, raging around six hours.

A total of 17 fire fighting units were in action to bring the fire under control, said the fire services official.

A joint support team of Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force were engaged to control the fire in the Krishi Market, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

An air force helicopter also joined the effort of containing the blaze, it said.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel, Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and local people, as well, worked to bring the fire under control.

No casualty was reported till the filing of this report at 9:45am.
