C T Online Desk: The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Examination in Chittagong and its surrounding centres has been postponed by one hour due to heavy rainfall leading to waterlogging.
Professor Narayan Chandra Nath, the examination controller of Chittagong Education Board, confirmed the information on Sunday.
He said: “Due to heavy downpour and waterlogging, the exam in Chittagong city and its neighbouring centres has been pushed back by an hour as per the education minister’s directive. Students were unable to reach the exam venues on time due to the adverse weather conditions.”
He further mentioned: “Within the metropolis, there are 27 centres affected, along with two to three centres in the nearby vicinity.”
Meanwhile, it has been reported that 27 candidates are still absent at the Fateyabad City Corporation Degree College Centre.
In response, Professor Narayan Chandra Nath, the examination controller, explained that due to the absent candidates, the exam will commence after a half-hour delay. Consequently, the exam’s starting time at this centre was set at 11:30am.
While the Higher Secondary and equivalent exams were originally scheduled to take place across the country starting from August 17, the exams for three boards were postponed due to the flooding situation in Chittagong.
The HSC and equivalent examinations under the Chittagong Education Board, Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board, and Bangladesh Technical Education Board were rescheduled to commence on August 27.
Earlier, the low-lying areas of Chittagong city have been submerged in floodwaters since Saturday night.
