C T Online Desk: The families of six brothers, who lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar on February 8, will get eight houses.
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mamun-ur-Rashid announced the decision while visiting the family members for the second time on Wednesday afternoon.
The deputy commissioner said, “This family of 6 brothers is landless. So, in accordance with the wishes of the Prime Minister, we have decided to rehabilitate the affected families by constructing new pucca houses in khas land as a gift on the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. UNO and Assistant Commissioner (Land) have been instructed to start the preliminary process for building the house. Eight houses will be constructed on khas land next to Dulahazara Nathpara and those will be handed over soon.”
He also handed over Tk 1.35 lakh to the family members of the deceased. With this, the district administration provided assistance of Tk 3.60 lakh to the family in three phases.
Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) JP Deon, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Chakaria Circle) Tafiqul Alam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Rahat Uz Zaman and Chakaria police officer in charge (OC) Osman Gani, among others, were present.
Meanwhile, a 25-member delegation led by Advocate Rana Dasgupta, general secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Parishad, visited the family on the same day and also provides financial support.
Earlier on February 8, a pick-up van hit seven brothers when they were returning home after taking part in post funeral rituals for their father.
Six of them died till Wednesday.
