C T Online Desk: Omar Hajjaj, proprietor of Reliance International, has been elected as the president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) for the 2023-25 period.
Tarafder Md Ruhul Amin, managing director of Saif Powertec Ltd, and Raisa Mahbub, proprietor of Raisa Enterprise, have been elected as senior vice president and vice president respectively.
The newly elected directors of Chattogram chamber have elected a president, a senior vice president, and a vice president at the maiden meeting held at the Agrabad World Trade Center on Tuesday, the chamber said in a statement.
Election Board Chairman Md Nurun Newaz, members Mohammad Ali Chowdhury and Wahid Alam, and Chairman of the Election Appeal Board Sarwar Hasan Jamil were present in the meeting of the Board of Directors.President-elect Omar Hajjaj, the son of lawmaker MA Latif and also a former president of CCCI, previously served the Chattogram chamber as senior vice president for 2019-21 and director for 2017-19. Vice president-elect Raisa Mahbub is the daughter of incumbent CCCI President Mahbubur Rahman. She served as Convener of the Standing Sub-Committee on Women Entrepreneurship Development of CCCI during the 2021-23 terms.The voting for electing directors of the Chattogram chamber was scheduled to be held on 5 September.
Earlier on 6 August, the last day for submitting nomination papers, 24 directors were elected uncontested in four groups, including Ordinary Members, Associate Members, Town Hall Association, and Trade Group, as only 24 candidates submitted nomination papers for 24 director posts.
