HSC exams to be suspended only in disaster-affected areas : Minister

C T Online Desk: Regarding this year’s Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examination, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the examination would be suspended only at the places affected by natural calamities.

The exam will continue throughout the country, said the minister while talking to reporters after inaugurating the building of Chandpur Lady Pratima Mitra Girls High School on Friday afternoon.

Dipu Moni said that the dengue outbreak takes place every year, but the number of cases is higher this year. “There is no opportunity to postpone public exams like HSC for dengue situation.”

She said that some candidates are worried as they are not prepared. But, authorities cannot postpone the exams of 1.4 million other candidates just for the ones who are not prepared.

The minister urged the students who are staging protests to postpone the exam to take preparations.

On Tuesday, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations will begin on August 17.

“The HSC exam schedule will not change,” she said while briefing reporters after a national monitoring and disciplinary committee meeting at the International Mother Language Institute.

HSC examinations will be held on full marks in all subjects except ICT in the revised syllabus.

The education minister said the Information and Communication Technology test will be held on 75 marks. Coaching centres across the country will remain closed from August 14 to September 25.

The exams will end on September 25.
