Ex-MP Panna Kaiser to be buried at Shahid Buddhijibi Graveyard Sunday

C T Online Desk: Professor Panna Kaiser, former lawmaker, will be buried on Sunday at Mirpur Shaheed Buddhijibi Graveyard.

She will be laid to rest after her third namaz-e-janaza at Dhaka University Central Mosque after Zuhr prayer.

Before that, her body will be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar from 11am to 12:30pm for people from all walks of life to pay their respects.

The late Panna Kaiser’s first namaz-e-janaza was held on Friday after Jummah prayer at Gulshan Azad Mosque.

Her body was then taken to her residence in the New Eskaton area of the capital around 2:45pm.

Her second namaz-e-janaza was scheduled to be held after the Asr prayer. Her body will be kept at Birdem Hospital’s morgue after that.

The renowned writer and intellectual, and wife of martyred intellectual, writer, and politician Shahidullah Kaiser, breathed her last at 8am on Friday while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the capital. She was 73.

She was also the mother of actor Shomi Kaiser.

After Shahidullah Kaiser was picked up from his house by al-Badr forces in 1971, Panna took care of the family and children in the absence of her husband and did not stop there.

After completing post-graduation in Bangla at Dhaka University, she went into the teaching profession.

Later, she stepped into the literary arena. In 1973, Panna Kaiser became a presidium member of the country’s largest children’s organization “Khelaghar”.

She had been the chairperson of the presidium of the organization since 1992.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday expressed deep shock and sorrow at her death.
