C T Online Desk: The Bangladesh Cricket Board has chosen Padma Bridge as the ‘iconic structure’ for an ICC World Cup trophy photo session, a top official confirmed on Tuesday.
The trophy of the ICC World Cup is all set to arrive in Dhaka on August 7 and after a three-day exhibition at various places, it will move to Kuwait for another two-day tour.
The trophy tour, which began on June 27 in India, will cover 18 countries around the world, including Bahrain, Malaysia, USA, Nigeria, Uganda, France, Italy and the United States of America before it ends at the host nation on September 4.
The last time the ICC World Cup trophy came to Bangladesh was back in 2019 and at that time, the trophy was exhibited at the National Parliament House.
“As part of the ICC World Cup trophy tour, the trophy is coming to Bangladesh. The ICC also took similar initiatives before. This is a campaign of the ICC before the World Cup,” BCB’s Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters in Mirpur.
“There is a requirement from the ICC to arrange a photo session in front of an iconic location…You all know that Padma Bridge is our pride and also an iconic structure. So we are planning to arrange a trophy photo session on Padma Bridge,” he added.
Meanwhile, Nizamuddin added that the trophy will also be exhibited at the Bashundhara Shopping Mall in the capital so that general people can have a live experience of the prestigious trophy.
“We are working hard so that mass people can watch the trophy. We have talked to two shopping malls and we are arranging one at the Bashundhara Shopping Mall more likely. Then the trophy will be brought to the cricket board,” he said, adding that they also have a plan to organise a trophy photo session with the national team players.
The upcoming edition of the World Cup will get underway in Ahmedabad, India on October 5. The final of the 10-team tournament will take place at the same venue on November 19.
