Security strengthened on Dhaka-Chittagong highway

C T Online Desk: Law enforcers have tightened security on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, one of the major entry points to Dhaka as BNP and Awami League announced stage sit-ins at all entry points of the capital city on Saturday.

More than 150 police, including members of Detective Branch (DB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have been deployed at the Signboard entry point.

After talking to the ticket sellers at the long-distance bus counters, it was known that the traffic will be suspended after 11am.

Police and Ansar members have been deployed on the Dhaka Chittagong Highway in front of Shonir Akhra Daniya College in the capital.

As part of security measures, armoured police vehicles have been kept ready.

They are on alert to maintain law and order and avoid any vandalism and violence.

When asked about security measures, Mehedi Hasan, Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said that since the political parties did not take permission, any location without permission is legally illegal. Therefore, the police are on alert to deal with such situations and ensure public safety.

So far no position of BNP has been noticed till filing the report.

Besides, there was no presence of leaders and activists and Awami League and its associate bodies.

The opposition BNP and its alliances have announced sit-ins at important entry points into Dhaka on Saturday

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the program on Friday at what was described as a mega rally.

The ruling Awami League also announced to hold sit-ins, in response to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) programs at important entry points into Dhaka on Saturday.
