Naim, Ebadot return as Tigers opt to bowl

C T Online Desk: Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl in their second of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.

The Tigers must win to keep the series alive after a dominating all-round display from the visitors saw them win the rain-interrupted first ODI by 17 runs via DLS on Wednesday.

The Tigers had lined up Liton Das as captain for the remainder of the Afghanistan series, and included Naim Sheikh in the opening slot for today’s fixture, following Tamim Iqbal’s shock retirement from international cricket on Thursday despite leading the team in the first ODI.

Tamim, however, withdrew his decision following a three-and-a-half-hour meeting with the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, yesterday and is set to take a six-week break in order to get required treatment from injury.

The Tigers have one more change in their playing, with Ebadot Hossain replacing fellow pacer Taskin Ahmed.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan have kept their line-up unchanged.
