15 students rescued after getting trapped in Mirsharai

C T Online Desk: Police and fire service have rescued 15 students who got stuck while visiting Sonaichari waterfall in Wahedpur Union of Mirsharai upazila in Chittagong.

On Tuesday morning, a group of students studying in different universities came to enjoy Sonaichari waterfall and got stranded.

They were rescued from the hilly remote area after dialling the National Emergency Service number 999.

he tourists stuck in the waterfall are students of Bangladesh University of Engineering (Buet), Chittagong University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet), Chittagong Medical College, Dhaka University, Noakhali University of Science and Technology, Khulna Agricultural University and Green Herald School and College.

Ayan Chowdhury, a student of Buet, said: “In the morning, we went to see Sonaichari waterfall. When it started raining in the afternoon, the hilly road became slippery and it became difficult to walk on the jhiri path. Later, we called the National Emergency Service 999, and police and fire service personnel came and rescued us.”

Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mirsharai police station, said that 15 students of different universities got trapped in the hilly area when it started raining on Tuesday afternoon.

At that time, they called 999 and took the assistance of Mirsharai police station.

Later, Mirsharai Police Station and Mirsharai Fire Service Station personnel rescued them after a 4-hour drive.

They were handed over to the respective families in the evening, said the OC.
