Holidaymakers of southern districts enjoy smooth journey through Padma Bridge

C T Online Desk: Holidaymakers of 23 districts of the South-western region are returning home on Eid smoothly through the Padma Bridge via the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway.

There was no traffic jam on the expressway since Tuesday morning despite increased traffic pressure.

Long-distance public transport and private vehicles are crossing the Padma Bridge smoothly by paying toll.

Meanwhile, the Padma Bridge has crossed the milestone of Tk800 crore toll collection within a year of the inauguration of vehicular movement.

As many as 31,298 vehicles crossed the bridge in the last 24 hours. So far, over Tk3.61 crore toll collected during the period.

Meanwhile, a total of Tk806,51,89,549 toll has been collected so far.

But there was no traffic jam on the expressway, he added.

Traffic congestion in Padma Bridge Toll Plaza area was not found much. Vehicles have to cross the expressway toll booth and Padma toll booth by paying a toll in a short time.

Additional police have been deployed at various points on the expressway. Work is in progress to prevent over speeding of vehicles, said the police official.

Additional Director of Padma Bridge Side Office, Amirul Haider Chowdhury, said that people are going to their respective destinations on Eid through Padma Bridge. Although the traffic pressure has increased slightly since morning, there is no suffering anywhere. Revenue is also increasing due to the increase in traffic during Eid.

He also said that vehicles are crossing through 15 booths on both sides of Padma Bridge. Among them, there are seven booths at the Mawa end and eight booths at the Jazira end.
