Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sadhurpara Union Parishad chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu claiming his prime role in killing journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim of Jamalpur.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of Media Wing of RAB, came up with the development at a press conference at its Media Centre in Dhaka Saturday evening.
Killing of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim was “ pre-mediated” as he reported against the UP chairman, the RAB official said.
The elite force arrested Babu from Panchagarh around 9:00am foiling his apparent bid to flee the country via border.
Babu has been expelled as general secretary of Bakshiganj upazila Awami League while his son Fahim Faisal Rifat as joint convener of Bakshiganj upazila unit Chhatra League for their pivotal role in the murder.
Nadim’s wife Monira Begum filed a case against 47 people including the duo in connection with the killing.
Police produced nine accused before a Jamalpur court seeking five-day remand and Sunday is fixed for decision in this regard.
On Thursday night, Banglanews24.com journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim was attacked by the chairman gang on his way to residence from office for publishing reports. Complicity of chairman and his men in the murder is evident in CCTV footage of Dutch Bangla Bank and local accounts.
