Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) bus operates on 4 routes from Chittagong to  inter-districts  road  today, but is insufficient than needed.

In addition, it is difficult to reach the destination at certain times due to underdeveloped passenger services on the old bus, the bus air conditions (AC) and the car is disrupted on the road.

The BRTC will launch 20 more two -storey electric AC buses in Chittagong this year.

It is reported that these buses are being collected under the Indian Loan Assistance Agreement (LOC). 1 crore will cost for 5 buses. With this, the price of the bus will be Tk 5 crore for spare parts, Tk 5 crore to set up seven electric charging stations. Currently, about 5 to 5 percent of the total passenger vehicle is electricity due to imports in the country. Due to the latest technology, to buy these vehicles, you have to pay 5 percent higher than ordinary vehicles. The National Board of Revenue currently takes 12 percent tariff and 20 percent supplementary duty on electricity -powered vehicles.

According to sources in the Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealer Association (Barvida), the import process was difficult, lack of charging stations and higher prices than fossil fuel cars. Nevertheless, the passenger vehicle in the market will be priority due to environmentally friendly and energy affordable.

BRTA officials said the ‘Electric Vehicle Charging Guide’ has been prepared to provide a structure to set up a wide network of charging stations across the country. Bangladesh Auto Industries Limited will increase local production units in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial Nagar in Mirsarai, Chittagong.

1 in Chittagong-Noakhali, 1 in Chittagong-Chandpur, 1 in Chittagong-Sylhet-Sunamganj, 3 in Chittagong-Rangamati and 4 in Chittagong-Khagrachara-Khagara. Diesel -powered buses are moving. In addition, some buses operate in the city area and different upazilas.
