C T Online Desk: A 3-days’ Boishaki fair on the occasion of Jabbrer Balikhela gets underway today.
The three-days’ Boishaki fair is starting today Chittagong Jabbar Balikhela is considered as a popular and traditional wrestling competition. The Balikhela ring is getting ready for the 114th Abdul Jabbar Balikhela at Laldighi Maidan in the port city.
Today 24th, 25th and 26th of April there will be Boishaki fair. Balikhela will be held on April 25. In 1909 Abdul Jabbar, a native of Boxirhat area, organized a wrestling competition at Laldighi ground in city to organize the youth in the anti-British movement. Which is known as Jabbar’s Ballikhela in the cycle of time. According to the calendar, Balikhela is played on the 12th of Baisakh in the Maidan of Laldighi.
On this occasion, the fair was held for three days. The Boishakhi fair is organized around three kilometers around Laldighi Maidan, centered on balikhela. It is the largest Baisakhi fair in Greater Chittagong area. This fair is held in the area centered around the Laldighi field. Balikhela will be played at Laldighi field on Tuesday.
The main sponsor of this year’s fair is City Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury. Before the start of the fair, traders started coming from different places with different products from Saturday night.
