C T Online Desk: ‘The people of the country have given me the highest honour’.
Outgoing president Md Abdul Hamid has urged politicians to engage in politics by holding love for the people of Bangladesh.
“Politicians should practice politics with love for the people. Only then will there be a qualitative change in politics,” he said while talking with journalists before his farewell reception at Bangabhaban on Monday.
The outgoing president mentioned that he had been involved in politics throughout his life and held love for the people and has received their love in return.
Referring to himself as the record-setting president of the subcontinent, he said he had served for 10 consecutive years in two terms.
Responding to a question from the journalists, he said that he would not engage in politics after completing his presidential duties.
“The people of the country have given me the highest honour. I want to keep that honour intact,” he added.
The recently retired president said he would spend his retirement reading books and writing but would not engage in politics again.
