Eid tomorrow if moon sighted today

C T Online Desk: Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated in the country tomorrow if the moon of Shawwal month is sighted in Bangladesh sky today.

However, Eid will be celebrated on Sunday after a month-long fasting if the new crescent moon is not sighted today.

The decision will be taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee this evening after reviewing the information of the Shawwal moon sighting.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan will preside over the meeting to be held at the Islamic Foundation’s Baitul Mukarram office.

The committee has urged people to inform it over phone and fax if they see the Shawwal moon anywhere in Bangladesh sky.

They can report to the respective upazila nirbahi officer or deputy commissioner as well. The phone numbers are: 223381725, 41050912,

41050916 and 41050917 while the fax numbers are 223383397 and 9555951.

Meanwhile, thousands of people have already left the capital to celebrate the festival with their near and dear ones at their village homes.
