RAB arrests driver of pickup van that killed five brothers in Cox’s Bazar

C T Online Desk: The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested the driver of the pickup van that hit and left five brothers dead in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Saidul Islam Saiful was arrested from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Friday, said Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB’s Legal and Media Wing.

The accident occurred due to speeding, he said. “The driver fled the area after running over them,” the RAB spokesperson added.

Following the death of their father, Dr Suresh Chandra Shil, seven siblings—five brothers and two sisters—were on their way to a temple in Chakaria to perform puja as part of a religious ritual on February 8.

The pickup hit them while they were standing on the side of the road trying to cross it.

Four of the brothers died on spot and another succumbed to his injuries while hospitalized.

The deceased were identified as Anupam Chandra Shil, Nirupam Chandra Shil, Dipak Chandra Shil, Champak Chandra Shil and Saran Chandra Shil.
