C T Online Desk: Members of the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force, and Bangladesh Navy have joined the operation to control the fire at Dhaka’s Bangabazar market that took place early on Tuesday.
Director of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Colonel Abu Hayder Mohammad Rasheluzzaman said that a joint support team of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Navy and a helicopter are working to control the fire in Bangabazar.
The fire took place at around 6am, and currently, 50 units of fire service are working to control the blaze.
There are four markets – Bangabazar Market, Mahanagar Market, Adarsha Market, and Gulistan Market, – in the area. General people refer to all of them together as Bangabazar Shopping Complex. Traders said that there are about 3,000 shops in these four markets.
According to Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room the cause of the fire is yet to be known, and no casualties have been reported so far.
Witnesses said that owners and employees of shops in the market rushed to the spot after hearing the news of the fire. They were seen removing goods from their stores and moving them to a safe location.
Meanwhile, a crowd has gathered around the area to witness the enormous blaze, while members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence are urging them to vacate the site.
