C T Online Desk: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday imposed a status quo on the post of general secretary of Film Artistes’ Association (FAA).
The apex court also stayed a High Court (HC) order that had stayed the decision of an appellate board that revoked the candidacy of Zayed Khan in the recently held FAA polls and declared Nipun Akter as the general secretary of the association.
Justice Obaidul Hassan of the Appellate Division Chamber Judge Court passed the order after holding a hearing on a petition filed by Nipun, challenging the February 7 HC order.
The court also set February 13 for holding further hearing on the matter.
Advocate Rokonuddin Mahmud represented the petitioner, while advocates Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Ahsanul Karim and Nahid Sultana Juthi stood for Zayed Khan before the court on Wednesday.
The High Court on February 7 stayed the decision of an appellate board that cancelled the candidacy of Zayed Khan.
The court also issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain in a week as to why it should not declare illegal a letter of the Department of Social Services giving the ultimate authority to the appellate board in taking such a decision, and the decision of the appellate board cancelling the candidacy of Zayed Khan.
