IGP urges not to panic over bomb threat at book fair

C T Online Desk: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has urged the public not to panic over a bomb threat sent to the Bangla Academy by alleged militant group Ansar al-Islam members.

“Similar letters were sent in the past years as well. We are looking into the matter. Law enforcers are taking necessary measures in this regard,” he said while attending a program in Dhaka’s Mirpur on Saturday.

He mentioned that the people who are involved in the incident will be identified and necessary legal action will be taken against them.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Friday morning.

On Thursday, an individual claiming to be from the banned militant organization Ansar al-Islam sent a letter threatening to attack the Amar Ekushe book fair.

The letter was sent to poet Muhammad Nurul Huda, the director general of Bangla Academy.

Later, Jahangir Alam, a security officer of Bangla Academy, filed a general diary with the Shahbag police station over the bomb threat.
